About Me
Heather Ford
BA(hons) PGCE
For as long as she can remember, Heather Ford has been captivated by art. Even as a child, her natural affinity for drawing and painting portraits hinted at the remarkable creative journey ahead. Growing up with an ever-present passion for capturing human expressions, Heather’s early sketches paved the way for a lifelong dedication to the visual arts.
During the vibrant decades of the 1970s and 80s in London, Heather built a successful career as a graphic designer. Her work in the design industry not only refined her technical skills but also enriched her understanding of visual storytelling. This period was instrumental in establishing the creative foundation that would later influence her work as a fine artist.
In 1993, seeking a balance between her professional aspirations and family life, Heather returned to university to pursue art education. By earning her qualifications as an art teacher, she reconnected with the fundamental principles of artistic expression and passed on her passion to a new generation of students. This phase of her life underscored the importance of nurturing creativity through teaching.
A transformative chapter began in 2010 when Heather moved to Oman to live and work. Immersed in Oman’s rich cultural heritage and surrounded by a welcoming community of local artists, she found fresh inspiration and renewed energy in her work. The Omani art community’s warmth and support encouraged her to experiment with new ideas and techniques, ultimately deepening her commitment to the craft.
Specialising in oils, Heather’s portraiture captures depth and emotion with striking clarity. Her dedication reached a pinnacle in 2023 during a solo exhibition at the prestigious Stal Gallery in Muscat, where she presented a series of large scale portraits. This landmark event not only celebrated her artistic evolution but also reinforced her status as an influential contemporary artist.
Now retired from teaching full time Heather has embraced a life as aN artist. She devotes her days to creating powerful, evocative works and sharing her expertise through workshops both locally and internationally. Her story is a testament to the transformative power of art—a journey marked by lifelong passion, reinvention, and the courage to follow one’s creative calling.
